Education - Summer Camps : The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre

Summer on Stage is an amazing opportunity for young people to grow their theatre skills, try new things, meet new friends, and boost confidence - all culminating in a celebratory performance on stage in the Civic Auditorium. It's an amazing experience that will stay with our campers for the rest of their lives.

For campers entering grades PS - 3, our teaching artists and camp assistants guide students as they explore the musical theatre basics - acting, singing, and dancing - as well as games, crafts, and outdoor activities. At the end of camp, participants excitedly move to the Civic Auditorium Stage to share their talents in an end of camp performance.

For campers entering grades 4 - 9, the musical camps focus on building skills used by "triple threat" performers - acting, singing and dancing - while the Shakespeare campers will explore performing prose while receiving coaching in stage combat. Participants will break into smaller groups throughout the day so teachers can provide just the right balance of challenge and support. Mini lessons are used to build specific skills while the campers work together to prepare a show to share at the end of camp.
