Stephanie teaches Theatre History , Dramaturgy and Directing at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She trained as an actress at the California Institute for the Arts and completed a liberal arts degree at Westmont College. Since 2001, her focus has been the dramaturgy of new plays, bringing living playwrights to Calvin College , developing and then performing their works. The focus of these productions has been on creating new plays centered on questions of faith for Calvin's bi-annual Festival of Faith & Writing. As a playwright, she works in adapting novels such as Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion for the stage as well as directly confronting important contemporary social issues through her most recent work Seven Passages: The Stories of Gay Christians which is a piece of ethnographic theatre weaving together more than 127 interviews with gay and lesbian Christians. Currently she is working on the development of a new play about the lived experience of race and racism in Western Michigan. This piece will premiere at Actors' Theatre Grand Rapids in the Autumn of 2010.
