Kathy has a great deal of history with the Kalamazoo Civic directing her first production in 1977. She received the Kalamazoo Civics Larkin Noble Award for her many years of directing; her most recent being the acclaimed Les Miserables in 2013. She has been honored with the Community Medal of Arts Award for her many years of theatrical direction in numerous theaters in the community. Most of Kathy s career has been dedicated to educating young theatrical artists. For eighteen summers she was the Managing Director for the Civic Summer Theatre (a program for students aged 14-23.) She has prided herself on challenging young artists at Portage Central High School with area premieres of Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Ragtime, Hairspray, Secret Garden, All Shook Up, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and The Phantom of the Opera. She and her students at Portage Central were honored three times during her tenure by being chosen to perform at the largest International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Kathy is Vice President of the board at Farmers Alley Theatre, the only year-round professional theatre in southwest Michigan. She has directed twenty-six Farmers Alley Theatre productions featuring professional theatre artists from across the country. Favorites have been Fun Home, Next to Normal, Parade, The Bridges of Madison County, Light in the Piazza, The Secret Garden, and 1776. She is looking forward to directing the area premiere of the musical Bright Star in June of this year.

Kathy would like to dedicate this production to her husband John who left this world too soon.
