Resident Lighting and Sound Designer
Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator
AnnMarie describes joining the Civic Staff in 2012 as a "professional coming home." She was a Design intern during The Civic's 1991-1992 season and it was during that time that her passion for teaching others the tools of theatre was sparked! She received her undergraduate degrees in both Theatre Design and Education from Western Michigan University and a MS in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. Prior to the Civic, AnnMarie served as the Lighting and Sound Designer for The Barn Theatre for 9 summers " touring as Stage Manager/Lighting Director with American Family Theatre and Columbia Artist Management Companies during the rest of the year. Wanting to be more hands on in education; she then transitioned to the classroom working for over 10 years as a teacher and program director in the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek area. During this time, AnnMarie became an advocate for inclusive practices both in the classroom and in the community believing that embracing differences and insisting on removing barriers is the foundation of strong, empathic, creative communities. The Civic Theatre, with its mission to provide hands-on learning experiences for all in all aspects of theatre production and management is, for her, the perfect blending of these passions.
