Due to COVID-19 and our commitment to the safety and health of our students, summer Technical Theatre Camp has been converted to a virtual format.


TECHNICAL THEATRE CAMP "AT HOME" FOR AGES 10-Senior in High School

Tech Camp combines virtual instruction with hands-on experience in all things behind the scenes. Interact with other students and join the Civic Resident Technical Theatre and Design Staff as they help bring the theatrical magic to you at home!

Date: June 22nd - June 26th (Monday-Friday)
Time: 9:00 am- 4:30 pm
Screen Time: Approx. 3 hours of daily screen time instruction. Remainder of the day is spent hands-on creating projects with our professionals online as they answer questions and provide guidance live!
Ages: 10 thru Senior in High School(Limit 18 students)
Tech at Home Camp-in-a-Box: Students will be provided necessary supplies needed for creating tech projects in our signature Camp-in-a-Box!
Fee: $85 Activity/Lab fee covers the cost of all Camp-in-a-Box supplies that students get to keep.
Registration Deadline: Thursday June 18th by 5:00 pm

To ensure that students get the best interactive online instruction possible our camp size is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

CAMP DESCRIPTION
Technical Theatre Camp introduces students to traditional stagecraft skills used in the creation phase of productions. Students will work on scenery construction and painting; create Foley sound effects; experiment with colored light/shadow; explore electrical circuits; create hand props; explore the process of costume design and apply that to the creation of costume pieces. Along the way, students will learn appropriate theatre terminology and proper safety procedures. This camp is sure to provide a socialization aspect for students as they create projects and share them. With our Tech at Home Camp-in-a-Box, you get to keep all the projects you have completed during this camp!

Computer Requirements: Students will need to have a Zoom account, solid internet connection and a computer, laptop, or digital device with a webcam.

Other Requirements:
Adult Supervision: A Parent/Guardian or Adult age 16+ will need to be available to assist with technology and projects as needed.
Safety First: Please wear clothes that can get dirty, close-toed shoes, and have an open space available where you aren t worried about making a mess (paint, glue, sawdust, water spills, etc.) as you create projects.
You may want to work outside for the scenery portion of camp.

We ask that you supply the following from home:

  • drawing supplies: crayons, colored pencils, or markers
  • scissors
  • hole punch
  • stapler
  • power strip with switch
  • hammer
  • safety glasses
  • sewing machine
  • small disposable cup to mix paint in
  • approximately 3 feet of aluminum foil

Drive-up to Pick-up your Camp-in-a-Box!
Pick-up Date: Friday June 19th
Times available: 8:00-9:00 am, 12:00-1:00 pm, or 5:30-6:30 pm
Location: Carver Center 426 S. Park Street. Please follow one-way traffic and pull up to the overpass doors.
Civic Staff will be onsite in our proper PPE to distribute your box of fun supplies and activities. We can t wait to see you and to have you at our first-ever Tech Camp At Home!



TECHNICAL THEATRE JUNIOR CAMP "AT HOME" AGES 6-9

Tech Camp Jr. combines virtual instruction with hands-on experience in all things behind the scenes. Interact with other students and join our Resident Lighting and Sound Designer as we help bring the theatrical magic to you at home!

Date: June 22nd - June 26th (Monday-Friday)
Session Times: 9:00 -10:30 am, 11:00 am -12:30 pm, or 6:00-7:30 pm
Screen Time: Approx. 45 minutes of daily screen time instruction. Remaining 45 minutes are spent hands-on creating projects with our professional online as she answers questions and provides guidance live!
Ages: 6 to 9
Tech at Home Camp-in-a-Box: Students will be provided multiple supplies needed for creating tech projects in our signature Camp-in-a-Box!
Fee: $50 Activity/Lab fee covers the cost of all Camp-in-a-Box supplies that students get to keep.
Student Maximum: 6 Students per session, 3 sessions available. To ensure that students get the best interactive online instruction possible our camp size is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration Deadline: Thursday June 18th by 5:00 pm.

CAMP DESCRIPTION:
Created especially for younger theatre enthusiasts! Campers will explore the folktale, Stone Soup. After studying a variety of versions, youth will design and create the lighting, sound, scenery, costumes and properties needed for an original production of this beloved tale. Along the way they will discover that, much like the people they meet in the book, theatre professionals work together to create something more wonderful than anyone of them could have done alone. Through this camp students will learn appropriate theatre terminology as they create a scale model of their theatrical vision. This camp is sure to provide a socialization aspect for students as they create projects and share them. With our Tech at Home Camp-in-a-Box, you get to keep all the projects you have completed during this camp!

Computer Requirements: Students will need to have a Zoom account, solid internet connection and a computer, laptop, or digital device with a webcam.
Students will receive an email with all Zoom meeting links for each day of the camp by Friday June 19th.

Other Requirements:
Adult Supervision: A Parent/Guardian or Adult age 16+ will need to be available to assist with technology and projects as needed.
Safety First: Things can get a bit messy so please wear clothes that can get dirty and have a table or other flat surface area suitable for working with paint, clay and glue.
We ask that you supply the following from home:

  • collection of magazines that can be cut
  • thin cardboard such as cereal boxes
  • scissors
  • clear tape
  • pencil

Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis online.

Class sizes are limited!

Once you have registered, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address used to register.

Before the class begins, the instructor will send a ZOOM link to participate in the class and where and when to pick up the student's materials needed for the class.
