The Civic is a "community theatre", which means that all of the actors, running crews, and ushers needed to present a production are members of the community who volunteer their time. Working at The Civic is fun, and a terrific way to serve the community.
Utilizing the talents of 1,000 volunteers each season, The Civic provides a variety of opportunities for involvement. Volunteers can spend an occasional evening ushering (and seeing the performance for free), or they can work backstage running sound, lights, or properties. And don't forget, all of our actors are volunteers.
We are always looking for newcomers, both onstage and off. We encourage everyone to become as involved as their schedule permits.
We pride ourselves on providing volunteers with the safest, most enjoyable experiences possible. To that end, we require that all volunteers complete a Volunteer Participation and Release Form as well as a form authorizing us to perform a background check, prior to volunteering.
For the convenience of all involved, these forms only need to be filled out once a year, rather than each time a volunteer participates at the Civic. Completed forms can be delivered to in an several ways:
