TWELFTH NIGHT
October 9 - October 24 2009     [ Peformance Schedule ]
As this captivating comedy unfolds, Shakespeare once again plays with the intersections of love and power. The sudden deaths of her father and brother have left the Countess Olivia, an independent and powerful woman, especially attractive to Duke Orsino, who, as the play begins, is already pursuing her. With the arrival of the well-born twins Viola and Sebastian, the love of power gives way to the power of love. The twins have been shipwrecked, and each thinks the other has drowned. Without protection, Viola chooses to disguise herself as a page, call herself Cesario, and enter into the service of Orsino. Orsino and Olivia become increasingly obsessed with Cesario. Olivia falls in love with him and Orsino cannot be out of his company. These tangled relationships provide many humorous moments before they are wonderfully untangled.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE
January 15 - January 30 2010     [ Peformance Schedule ]
Any way you spell it, this Tony Award-winning musical comedy is one of the brightest and funniest shows to play on Broadway in the last several years. Where else could six young people struggling with puberty stand out and fit in at the same time? This momentous spelling championship pits the quirkiest collection of heroes against one another in the most unlikely of hit musicals. Overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, these six charming contestants learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser. Oh, and you’ll want to brush up on your spelling; because at each performance, four volunteers are selected from the audience to participate in this tuneful, offbeat and heartwarming show. (This production will be most enjoyed by the more mature members of the family.)

"Can you spell i-r-r-e-s-i-s-t-i-b-l-e? …Gold stars all around."
— The New York Times.

VOICE OF GOOD HOPE
February 19 - March 6 2010     [ Peformance Schedule ]
This compelling play explores the remarkable life of Barbara Jordan, who in 1972 became the first black woman from the Deep South to be elected to the United States House of Representatives. During the 1974 House Judiciary Committee’s deliberations on the impeachment of Richard Nixon, Jordan’s calm and reasonable defense of the Constitution galvanized her reputation as a politician who could cross party lines and reach out to an American public in need of a steady voice. This is the heartfelt story of one woman who rose, against all odds, to become one of this country’s most powerful orators, one of its most astute politicians, one of its greatest teachers and, ultimately, one of its most private citizens.

“…forged in the crucible of the civil-rights struggle but timeless in its message.” — New York Times

ALL MY SONS
March 26 - April 11 2010     [ Peformance Schedule ]
Universal in scope, this American classic is as relevant today as it was when it won the Tony Award in 1947. Joe and Kate Keller, a middle-class couple, have lost their younger son in the war, but Kate cannot give up believing that he is still alive. Chris, their surviving son, falls in love with his brother’s fiancée Ann and brings her home to tell his parents of their new relationship and plans to marry. In the confrontations that follow, cracks begin to appear in everyone’s stories, lies are exposed, and a secret is revealed that could destroy them all.
